For a decade before he was elected to the Assembly in 2008 and subsequently became speaker, newspaper articles and official biographies listed L. A. Democrat and UC Berkeley drop-out John Perez as having graduated from UC. There were three bios from when he served on various commissions in Los Angeles, and another after former governor Gray Davis appointed him to the elections board, says Lance Williams at California Watch.
So how was it that Perez’ resume got corrected only after he was elected to state office? Williams wanted to know. A Perez spokesman says the speaker was too busy with the state budget to get back to him.
Also: And no, his being a UC drop-out has no bearing on his position as an ex-officio member of the University of California Board of Regents.
