That was California Common Cause executive director Kathay Feng’s assessment to the L. A. Times after state lawmakers Thursday scuttled a bill that would have prevented companies lobbying them from showering them with gifts. We’re talking tickets to Disneyland, sporting events, rock concerts—the usual bling.
Add bling: Senate leaders torpedoed the measure by state Sen. Sam Blakeslee (R-San Luis Obispo) before it could get a floor vote, so nobody had to get their hands dirty. Says Dan Schnur, the former head of the Fair Political Practices Commission who now teaches at USC:
"You'd think a Legislature with a single-digit approval rating would be more conscious of the low regard in which the voting public holds them."
