Pandora Radio adds laughs to its music mix

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

image Oakland-based online music service Pandora Radio is expanding into comedy. Its so-called Comedy Genome Project is at 10,000 clips and growing, with sketches that span 12 genres—such as Comedy Icons and Political Comedy—from more than 700 comedians, blogs founder and CEO Tim Westergren:

"It's been a very fun experience, taking what we've learned in music and applying it to a whole new category. Now, instead of talking about 'minor keys,' 'falsetto,' and 'extensive vamping,' our comedy-analysts capture 'odd juxtaposition' (A horse walks into a bar...), 'misdirection' and 'spoonerisms' (a well-boiled icicle, instead of a well-oiled bicycle)."
