Report: Buster Posey has broken leg, torn ligaments

Thursday, May 26, 2011

image Comcast SportsNet Bay Area is reporting Buster Posey has a broken leg plus torn ligaments and that the team has called up Chris Stewart to replace him. They’re hedging a bit, calling the report “unofficial.” Posey had x-rays after he was helped off the field following last night’s 12th inning collision at the plate with the Marlins’ Scott Cousins.

Add Posey: Andrew Baggarly at the Extra Bags blog asked about the x-rays and says all a Giants official would say was, “Not good.” Broken? Again, “Not good.”

Add Cousins: The early consensus is that the play involving Cousins wasn’t dirty. Here’s what Cousins tells the Palm Beach Post:

“I felt like he was blocking the dish. It’s the go-ahead run in the game. I’ve got to do whatever I can do to score. I know Schierholtz has an absolute cannon in the outfield.

“I couldn’t tell if Posey dropped the ball or not. All’s I saw was he looked like he secured it and turned towards me, I decided to try and knock the ball loose. … There was no lane to slide in. From the split-second I had to make up my mind 10 feet away there was no lane. I went in the only way I thought was the right way to go in.
