The vote to kill the UC Berkeley law professor’s nomination to the U. S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals fell eight votes short of the 60 needed to cut off debate and hold an up or down vote on confirmation. The vote was 52-43, along party lines.
Add: Liu had garnered some conservative support, including that of Ken Starr, the former Clinton impeachment prosecutor who is now president of Baylor University, but it wasn’t enough.
