Shock at sportscaster Daryl Hawks’ death

Friday, May 13, 2011

image Still no official word on what caused the death of former NBC Bay Area sportscaster Daryl Hawks, 38, of WMAQ TV Chicago, found dead in his Atlanta hotel room Thursday morning while in town to cover the Bulls-Hawks playoff game. Police are calling it a “medical emergency” and say there was no foul play.
Add: Hawks’ death stunned colleagues, including those who knew him during seven years in the Bay Area before he took the Chicago job. Here’s what WMAQ anchor and colleague Paula Faris tells the Chicago Sun-Times:
“You’d be hard pressed to find a father as loving and involved and as passionate about family as Daryl was. He lived for those children. And his wife was his soul mate, they were deeply in love. He was also close to his mom. She watched every show over the Internet. They talked daily, and she’d give him feedback.”
[+] 3:22 p.m.: AP reports that the initial phases of a  medical examiner's investigation found "no obvious cause" in Hawks' death.
