State Sen. Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) is demanding that Assemblyman Charles Calderon (D-Whittier) apologize for remarks that referred to the physical appearance and personality of California Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye. The offense: Calderon referred to the chief justice as "smart” and “nice.”
Evans heads the Legislative Women’s Caucus, and PolitiCal quotes her as writing to Calderon: “Your remarks regarding the chief justice were degrading and inappropriate. As the leader of California’s Judiciary, Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye should be taken seriously and not spoken about in such a dismissive and frivolous manner."
Add: Calderon says he meant no offense, and calls fellow Democrat Evans’ remarks a “sideshow.”
