A’s closer Andrew Bailey said the team hoped the firing of Bob Geren as manager Thursday and the hiring of Bob Melvin (pictured) to replace him could “act as a spark” to lift the A’s from their nine-game tailspin. Maybe so, but they lost their 10th in a row last night to the White Sox in Chicago.
