BART settles with Oscar Grant III’s mother

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

BART will pay $1.3 million to Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant III, to settle a civil rights lawsuit after Grant was shot and killed by former BART officer Johannes Mehserle. The settlement announced this afternoon is the second in the case. BART paid $1.5 million to settle a lawsuit on behalf of Grant’s 5-year-old daughter last year.

Add: It may not be the last of the financial repercussions. The Oakland Tribune says Grant’s friends remain active in the case.
