Chiang halts state lawmakers’ pay

The verdict from state Controller John Chiang: the budget plan pushed through by Democratic lawmakers last week and vetoed by Gov. Brown was not balanced. Therefore, under Proposition 25, lawmakers didn’t meet the June 15 deadline for passing a balanced budget and so don’t get their salary or living expenses.

Add: “The numbers simply did not add up,” AP quotes him as saying.
