imageReporter Lee Romney says the interim mayor and reluctant candidate’s popularity signals a mellower era in San Francisco politics. The piece includes cameo mentions of the usual suspects, from pro—Rose Pak and Willie Brown—to con, Chris Daly. Daly says he’s got no issue with Lee, but calls him the “lap dog” of Brown and Pak. An excerpt:
In a town of high-profile mayors who have played to the press — think Willie Brown and Gavin Newsom — Lee has emerged as an everyman hero. Most unusually, he has sidestepped the high-drama battles between moderate liberals and more left-leaning progressives that have at times paralyzed city business.
