Bloodletting at Spin Magazine, the iconic alt-music mag that has struggled to regain its cred since Nion McEvoy (pictured), an heir to Chronicle founder M. H. de Young, bought it for less than $5 million back in 2006.
Editor in chief Doug Brod and publisher Malcolm Campbell were fired Friday, Media Decoder reports. Deputy editor Steve Kandell becomes editor; Mike Albanese becomes publisher.
Add: Media Decoder notes that Spin “has struggled to remake itself and re-establish its alternative roots after a short-lived, mainstream makeover of the magazine in 2006 that put Beyonce on the cover.”
Noted: Besides being CEO of Spin, McEvoy’s portfolio includes being CEO of Chronicle Books and 7x7 Magazine, and he continues to be active, along with his mother, Nan McEvoy, in the family’s Petaluma olive oil operation, McEvoy Ranch.
