ABC says it will stop paying for news, sort of

Monday, July 25, 2011

imageABC News has been burned plenty of times for its pay-to-play news gathering practices that include shelling out $200,000 to Casey Anthony (pictured), $25,000 to one of Anthony Weiner’s genitalia photo recipients, and $10,000 to that fraud who claimed she injected her daughter with Botox. Now, writes Howard Kurtz at The Daily Beast, the network says it’s bowing out of the game—almost:

The new approach is not an absolute ban, but network sources say it would take an extraordinary circumstance to allow a licensing fee—perhaps once every couple of years—that would require approval at the highest levels.

Good luck with finding the principle in that.
