UC Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu, whose federal appeals court nomination was blocked by Republicans, today was nominated by Gov. Jerry Brown to the California Supreme Court. It’s subject to confirmation by the state Commission on Judicial Appointments. Liu, 40, would succeed Justice Carlos Moreno, who retired in February and was the only Democratic appointee on the seven-member court. More: Chronicle
