In Orinda, a Frank Lloyd Wright walk-through

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

imageFor $50 come July 30 you can tour the Orinda home that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for gun mount inventor Maynard Buehler and his wife Katie in 1948. There’s also a reception for those who shell out $125.

Add: The Buehler house burned in 1994 giving supervising architect Walter Olds the distinction of having both built and rebuilt the home. Berkeleyside has more on Olds and the house.

Noted: A 2003 NYT piece recalls the Buehlers’ surprise phone call from Wright months after he agreed in principle to do the design: ''This is your architect. I'm at the St. Francis hotel, and I'd like to meet you for breakfast tomorrow.''
