The layoff monster has paid a visit to the Bay Guardian, although arch-rival SF Weekly, which reports it, says that the only identified casualty so far is reporter Sarah Phelan. The Weekly’s Joe Eskenazi says word is that “three or four” other editorial employees have also been let go.
Add: Executive editor Tim Redmond doesn’t provide Eskenazi any numbers while acknowledging “we’ve had to make some cutbacks.”
Noted: However bad it turns out to be, it’s probably not as bad as it might have been without that undisclosed court settlement early in the year from Weekly parent Village Voice Media for illegal practices.
