San Francisco’s oldest building is what?

Thursday, July 7, 2011

imageSounds like an archeological rhubarb may be brewing over which is the oldest building in San Francisco now that new findings suggest some of the walls of the Presidio Officers’ Club could date to 1776. Until now, at least, the distinction has belonged to Mission Dolores, founded in 1776 and rebuilt at the current site in 1791. The Examiner says Mission Dolores curator Andrew Galvan isn’t ceding anything:

“I am not going to lose sleep if they make these statements. Some people live in a fantasy land.”

Noted: That’s the mission as it appeared on a 1930s postcard.
