Jonathan Haeber’s account of his and fellow photographers Stephen Freskos and Scott Haefner’s furtive dark-of-night mission to get to the heavily guarded Ghost Fleet of mothballed Navy ships rotting in Suisun Bay off Benicia reads like a mini-spy novel. (Hint: they used an inflatable boat with the least noisy
motor they could find.) It’s posted at the photo blog Bearings, with the photographic fruits of the trio’s efforts.
Add: The photos are eerily incredible, depicting furnishings and equipment aboard several of the historic ships as if time had stood still on the day they were abandoned decades ago.
