That’s Amelia Earhart getting a haircut at an Oakland barber shop (circa 1937?), one of 18 rare photographs of the legendary aviator to be
auctioned off—along with a pair of Luxor No. 6 flying goggles and other Earhart memorabilia—at Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland (and online) Sept. 10 and 11. Ryan Phillips at Oakland North has the rundown.
Add: Consigner Diane Brown found the photos in a manila envelope earlier this year while cleaning out her mother’s home after a fire, Phillips says. One of them is of Earhart’s Lockheed Electra taking off on her final flight from Oakland airport in 1937.
