Does Safeway have a mumbo-jumbo problem?

Monday, August 1, 2011

The Pleasanton-based national grocery chain is imagehaving difficulty in several Bay Area communities where it’s trying to build new stores. Could part of it be attributed to too much corporate baloney? Case in point: The grocer wants to build a big new store in Walnut Creek across the street from a big but smaller Safeway store. And yet a company spokeswoman suggests that if it gets its wish it might just operate both stores and thus not leave behind yet another empty brick-and-mortar hulk. Here’s the quote in the Contra Costa Times:
"It really depends on demand . . . and it is way too soon to predict anything."
