having difficulty in several Bay Area communities where it’s trying to build new stores. Could part of it be attributed to too much corporate baloney? Case in point: The grocer wants to build a big new store in Walnut Creek across the street from a big but smaller
Safeway store. And yet a company spokeswoman suggests that if it gets its wish it might just operate both stores and thus not leave behind yet another empty brick-and-mortar hulk. Here’s the quote in the Contra Costa Times:
"It really depends on demand . . . and it is way too soon to predict anything."
