You’d think that with
California legislators flirting with single digit approval ratings, lawmakers would think twice about trying to keep their office expense records secret. But no. The LA Times and Sacramento Bee filed suit Friday to force the Assembly to reveal for what and how much members spend on office expense. An excerpt from Capitol Alert:
The Rules Committee, chaired by Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner [D-Berkeley] but ultimately controlled by Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez, said that such documents are exempt under provisions of the Legislative Open Records Act covering "preliminary drafts, notes or legislative memoranda" and correspondence to lawmakers' offices.
Noted: That’s Skinner and Perez at a reception in Oakland earlier this year.
