Meg Whitman dials up a TV news puff piece

Monday, August 1, 2011

imageThe former eBay CEO who’s trying to regain a little credibility after dropping $180 million and being creamed by Jerry Brown last November, could sure use a fawning media piece or two. And Hearst-owned Sacramento TV station KCRA obliges with an “exclusive.” It presents the billionaire Republican and Mitt Romney supporter as a suburban working mother who likes photographs, mows her lawn and does spring cleaning. Reporter Deirdre Fitzpatrick even jumps in Whitman’s hybrid and rides with her to—get this—Costco. You can view the promo here.

Noted: Capitol Alert quotes an old hand at the station as saying: “That story would have been a good campaign ad back in the day.”
