That plan by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to spend $179 million of bridge toll money to relocate its offices from Oakland to San Francisco has state Sen. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) steaming. And he’s threatening to have the State Auditor look into whether the use of the money for new digs violates MTC’s publicly expressed purposes for toll increases. Here’s an excerpt from the senator’s press statement:
“East Bay motorists, including those in my district, pay increased bridge tolls for the purpose of transportation improvements not for the acquisition and development of a 500,000 square foot office building in San Francisco.”
Noted: DeSaulnier is chairman of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee.
