Author Daleen Berry says her book about surviving domestic abuse, “Sister of Silence,” was yanked from library shelves at Livermore High School and that she was turned away at the last minute after being invited to speak there last Friday. The school tells a different story, and insists the book wasn’t removed.
Add: School officials tell the Contra Costa Times that they pulled the West Virginia author’s appearance at the last minute because it had been arranged on short notice by a staffer without time to send attendance permission slips home to parents, which is policy for “sensitive or controversial” topics. Nothing’s certain yet, but the CoCo Times says there’s talk the school may try to have her back in November.
