This can’t be good. California’s unemployment rate
ticked up a notch to 12.1 percent in August,

according to new data this morning from the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Not much of a surprise, considering that the country added net zero new jobs in August, leaving the jobless rate nationally at 9.1 percent.
