Evidence points to a black bear roaming Mount Tam

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

imageIs there a black bear roaming Mount Tamalpais? Appears so, even though no one’s actually seen it yet. There have been several independent observations of bear scat around Kent Lake in recent weeks, the Marin IJ reports.

Noted: Black bears (like the random one in the photo) were once common at Point Reyes but were killed off by 1901, or so it was thought. There have been sporadic sightings over the years. In 2003, one was spotted 20 feet up a tree at Bon Tempe Lake, in the Mount Tam watershed.
