Phil Day, ex-City College chancellor, pleads guilty

Thursday, September 29, 2011

imagePhil Day was a popular and energetic chancellor at City College of San Francisco who stunned more than a few people when he quit in 2008 after 10 years on the job. He’ll be sentenced Nov. 1 after pleading guilty to three felonies for diverting $100,000 in college funds, not to himself, but to a couple of bond ballot campaigns to benefit the college. It’s part of a plea deal in which the charges will be reduced to misdemeanors after Day pays $30,000 in fines and makes restitution, the Chronicle says.

Add: Day’s troubles began after an investigation by then DA Kamala Harris led to a raid at the college and his subsequent indictment in 2009, along with two other former college officials on similar charges.
