After an aide to Chronicle columnist Willie Brown sent invitations to a fundraiser for Mayor Ed Lee, Brown apparently saw the need to send Lee a keep-your-chin-up note in the face of criticism about his involvement with the Lee campaign. Not only that, Brown
asked for the mayor’s help to put “these critics in their place once and for all.” The Examiner published the note yesterday:
“My record with you and with San Francisco as well as the state of California for over 40 years should not be a burden to anybody running for public office. To put these critics in their place once and for all I need your help.”
Noted: Brown is who he is and his power-brokering on behalf of Lee has been anything but secret. The real conflict is with the Chronicle for not giving him his walking papers.
