In Bolinas, an historic saloon hits the sales block

Thursday, September 22, 2011

imageFor sale: one living historic landmark. Smiley’s Schooner Saloon in Bolinas, opened 160 years ago and believed to be Marin’s oldest continuously operated business, is hitting the market for the first time in 21 years. The listing price: just under $2 million. Former Coastal Post newspaper publisher Don Deane, 68, says he’s “slowing down” and wants to focus on another of his properties, the Marin IJ says.

Noted: Originally named the Schooner Saloon by a former ship captain who opened it in the early 1850s, Smiley’s was added in the 1950s by a previous owner.
