Of this year’s 22 so-called genius award winners, announced today by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, two are from the Bay Area. They are longtime College of Marin remedial English instructor and former Poet Laureate of the United States Kay Ryan and UCSF neurologist William Seeley.
Add: Besides the prestige, the winners receive an unrestricted $500,000 grant. It’s an especially sweet day for Seeley, coming on the day his daughter was born at UCSF. The MacArthur website has bio pages for Ryan and Seeley.
