USS Hornet museum looks toward San Francisco

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

imageThe floating aircraft carrier museum’s long flirtation with moving from Alameda to San Francisco just got an unexpected lift from a Texas philanthropy. The Wreyford Family Foundation says it’s supplying the ship museum a $100,000 matching grant to help it explore its San Francisco options.

Noted: Famous for its role in World War II and as the recovery ship for the Apollo 11 and 12 lunar missions, the Hornet has languished with low attendance at the former Alameda Naval Air Station and struggled to pay its bills in recent years.
