Got to hand it to the Berkeley High School football team, which is 3-3 and has to play its games on the road. The reason? The superintendent calls it a “facilities meltdown.” The school’s bleachers were shuttered several weeks ago. And last week, school officials abruptly closed the Old Gym, housing the weight room, for safety reasons. Players have been taking their equipment home after practice, although Berkeleyside’s Lance Knobel says that some storage container units were to be brought in today.
Add: Superintendent Bill Huyett apologized at last night’s school board meeting: “We do recognize the problems that have been put upon the [football] team. I don’t think anybody wanted this to happen, especially in this way. It happened very clearly out of a lack of information on my part.”
