Hearst’s newspapers, including the Chronicle, may be limping along on life support (or at least that’s the company line around contract negotiation time) but president David Carey paints a different picture with its voluminous magazine titles. HGTV Magazine, riding the wave of the cable station’s success, sends out a test issue of 350,000 copies tomorrow and Carey calls Hearst “the magazine company of the future.” Romenesko has the memo.
