Oakland is rightly proud of the Fox Theater, the centerpiece of its downtown revitalization effort. But a new audit of the five-year renovation says the theater’s $91 million overhaul was riddled with overpayments, lax oversight and broken promises, The Bay Citizen says. When the campaign began in 2004, it was supposed to cost $33 million.
