Chris Matthews’ new Valentine to JFK

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

imageThe MSNBC political talker is out with a second tome about his lifelong hero JFK—“Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero”—and has a Q&A with Lucas Kavner for HuffPost as part of the promo. Matthews produced his first Kennedy-related work, “Kennedy & Nixon: The Rivalry that Shaped Postwar America,” back in 1996 when he was still the Chronicle’s Washington bureau chief. Here’s his answer when asked to compare JFK with President Obama:
Obama hasn't clicked into the zeitgeist the way Kennedy did. Does [Obama] feel what we feel the way Kennedy felt what we felt? Does he get us right now? I hope he does, but I don't know.
Or does he know and just doesn’t care to say?
