Ellison-Benioff feud heats up at Oracle’s SF trade show

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

imageMore fun among bickering tech titans: Salesforce.com’s Marc Benioff’s scheduled speech this morning at the Oracle OpenWorld trade show in San Francisco has been canceled, apparently after his snippy tweets earlier in the week criticizing Sunday’s keynote by Mr. Oracle himself, Larry Ellison. Benioff (pictured) and Ellison clearly do not like each other. “This is the best possible outcome. It’s free publicity, and it is clear that Oracle is threatened by us,” Benioff tells the New York Times.

Noted: The NYT observes that the brouhaha peels back the curtain on a long-standing practice at such shows: the CEO’s pay to talk at them. Benioff forked over $1 million to give this morning’s speech. He now gets his money back.
