San Ramon-based Chevron, which is in court in Contra Costa County trying to get its taxes reduced for its Richmond refinery, earned $7.8 billion for the quarter just ended, up 108 percent from a year ago. Exxon Mobil’s earnings, also out today, weren’t shabby either: $10.3 billion, up 41 percent year-over-year.
