Networks ‘break’ for Obama Iraq troop withdrawal announcement

Friday, October 21, 2011

President Obama’s announcement this morning that all U. S. combat troops will be out of Iraq by the end of the year got some old-fashioned media attention. Not only did all the cable networks cover it live, but ABC, CBS and NBC each interrupted normal programming to cover the announcement:

"I can report that, as promised, the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of the year," Obama said. "After nearly nine years, America's war in Iraq will be over."

Noted: That’s two days in a row for it to happen. Yesterday they broke in with the President’s statement on Moammar Gadhafi’s death.
