Nob Hill’s Huntington Hotel sells to foreign investors

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

imageAfter being on the sales block for more than a year, the historic Huntington Hotel atop Nob Hill has sold to a Singapore hotel group. The Chronicle’s Andrew Ross says it went for just under $54 million. John Cope is the titular head of the family selling.

Noted: It was his colorful late father, Newton Cope, whom Herb Caen dubbed the “nabob of Nob Hill.” How else can you describe someone who called off his wedding with Jackie Kennedy’s sister, Lee Radziwill at the last minute, only to go on a honeymoon with her anyway?
