After ‘60 Minutes’ piece—voila!—legislation

imageAnd now for one of those I’m-shocked-there’s-gambling-in-this-establishment congressional moments: Two days after a “60 Minutes” piece Sunday laying bare how members of Congress have exempted themselves from insider trading laws and how members of both parties are able to enrich themselves as a result, comes a bill that presumes to stop the practice. Its sponsor, Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), calls it the STOCK act, for Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Speaker John Boehner (pictured) were among those the “60 Minutes’ piece featured. We’ll try and let you know if the bill is ever heard from again, or not.
