Behind Village Voice Media’s defense of its sex ads

Village Voice Media’s 13 alt-weeklies, including SF imageWeekly, have taken a lot of heat of late for the company’s backpage.com ads catering to the sex trade. Today the LA Times takes a turn parsing the issue. Just how important are the ads to VVM papers? Here’s a nugget deep in James Rainey’s piece:

A Village Voice executive, who asked not to be named for revealing confidential information, said that backpage.com, where online escort ads and the like go for about $10 each, produces at least one-seventh of the company's revenue.
