After a long day of mostly peaceful protest, a relatively small group of masked vandals shattered windows, set fires and plastered parts of downtown Oakland with graffiti. Police, who had been restrained during the long Occupy Oakland general strike, moved in shortly before midnight after a street fire was set near 16th and Broadway downtown, using tear gas and flash bang grenades to subdue the resisters, arresting dozens.
