Exotic deer on loose in park near Berkeley Marina

Thursday, November 3, 2011

imageSomeone has apparently turned loose an exotic Reeves Muntjac deer in Berkeley’s Cesar Chavez Park near the marina. A wildlife specialist at San Rafael-based Wildcare tells Berkeleyside the organization has received three separate calls imageabout sightings there in the last two days.  Adult Muntjacs, like the one shown here, are only about 24 inches tall, and are easy prey to larger animals, including dogs.

Noted: Wildcare asks anyone who sees it not to chase it, keep dogs away, and call Berkeley Animal Services at 510-981-6600.
