For San Francisco bowl game, a buzz-kill scenario?

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Friday night’s Pac-12 championship game between lowly UCLA (6-6) and Oregon (10-2) may imagebe a joke in college football circles, but bigger laughs may lie ahead. Assuming UCLA loses, Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel forecasts that the Bruins will play Western Michigan in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl at AT&T Park New Year’s Eve. That is, if UCLA (which fired coach Rick Neuheisel but will let him coach Friday) can get an NCAA waiver to allow a team with a losing record to play in a bowl game. The Chronicle’s Bruce Jenkins calls this scenario “absolute buzz-kill.”

Add: Would the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl really do that?
