How to manipulate local media—Obama-style

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

imageHere’s a familiar story about how the White House—any White House—manipulates local media. President Obama gave the Cinderella treatment to nine local TV stations yesterday, including one-on-one interviews (such as the one pictured), a visit to the First Lady’s garden on the South Lawn, and even lunch with presidential advisor David Plouffe. It’s a tried-and-true way to try and gin up favorable coverage.

Noted: The approach comes just a couple of weeks after the Obama campaign gave the cold shoulder to Bay Area media outlets, locking them out of a San Francisco fundraiser. Go figure.
