Ancillary fallout from this morning’s police removal of the Occupy Oakland encampment: Mayor Jean Quan’s chief legal advisor, Dan Siegel, resigned in protest in the wee hours of morning, before the raid got underway. He had threatened to resign after the first such raid last month, which turned out a lot messier than today’s peaceful event. The Chronicle quotes the mayor as saying in response: “He’s moving on. I’m moving on.”
Add: In another piece of political dissonance, Oakland’s police union thanked the police chief, the city administrator and even the protesters for the morning’s prevailing calm, while pointedly omitting any such congratulatory gesture for Mayor Quan, the Oakland Trib says.
