Meet the ‘One Percent,’ among California politicians

Friday, November 11, 2011

imageIt’s never easy estimating a politician’s wealth because of the vague way elected officials are allowed to report it—within such wide ranges as to sometimes be almost meaningless. But Will Evans at California Watch draws from some 2009 work by the Center for Responsive Politics that clearly shows a healthy number from the “One Percent” among California pols. Here’s the Bay Area’s top three, rounded in the millions, using an “average” estimate of net worth, at the middle of the disclosure range:

  • Dianne Feinstein: $77.1 million
  • Nancy Pelosi: $58.4 million
  • Jackie Speier: $12.5 million

Add: While DiFi’s wealth is nothing to sneeze at, it pales compared to the state’s richest elected official, San Diego area Rep. Darrell Issa, who comes in at $303.5 million.
