House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is pushing back against an unflattering report by CBS’s “60 Minutes” about her and her husband Paul Pelosi’s participation in an initial public offering of Visa stock while legislation affecting the credit card giant was before Congress. Her spokesman, Drew Hammill, tells the Chronicle the piece was “a right-wing smear.”
Add: That particular criticism, however, may be a tough sell, inasmuch as the piece by correspondent Steve Kroft also devoted at least as much attention to a couple of Republicans: House Speaker John Boehner and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus of Alabama (pictured with Pelosi).
Noted: Its overarching theme was that members of Congress have exempted themselves from insider trading laws, and that politicians of both parties use the system to enrich themselves.
