That bogus rumor about UC Berkeley seismologists predicting a big earthquake that went viral in an email last week—rattling some folks in Berkeley—has been traced to a San Francisco State professor. Seems that SFSU prof Genie Stowers, who has a student who’s an assistant to a Berkeley councilmember, passed along an email containing the bogus quake concerns to family and friends. Stowers, who chairs the Department of Public Administration, apologized, and said she’ll have no further comment, Berkeley Voice says.
