At UC Davis, pepper-spray cops placed on leave

Sunday, November 20, 2011

Two UC Davis police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave after pepper-spraying a group of student protesters huddled on the ground at point blank range Friday. (Video, top right of page) There are calls for Chancellor Linda P. B. Katehi’s resignation. Here’s the statement she issued today:

“I spoke with students this weekend, and I feel their outrage. I am deeply saddened that this happened on our campus, and as chancellor, I take full responsibility for the incident. However, I pledge to take the actions needed to ensure that this does not happen again.”
